SHANE FALLON
Shane Fallon is a San Francisco native currently in UC Berkeley's Masters of Science in Public Health, Nutrition program. She loves photography almost as much as she loves food, and she documents her culinary adventures on her blog "SF Eats in SF". As the 2016 recipient of UC Berkeley's Center for Global Public Health Reporting Fellowship, her summer photojournalism project will take her to Trujillo, Peru. There she will attempt to capture how dietary changes have created a public health crisis by contributing to the rise of noncommunicable diseases such as obesity and Type II diabetes. Outside of the classroom, Shane is a food tour guide, and her favorite avocation is spending time in her own edible garden, where she reads, relaxes, and mulls over what to prepare for dinner.
"I am excited to learn more about Public Health Nutrition outside of the classroom and office space this summer. My hope is that by immersing myself in the Peruvian culture, I can learn more about the connection between the consumption of food and health outcomes. My goal is to create a journalism piece that fills a knowledge gap and addresses health disparities in Peru through the lens of diet and nutrition."
