SAMUEL SCHILDHAUER
Samuel Schildhauer is a first year masters of public health student in the Infectious Disease and Vaccinology program at UC Berkeley. I completed my undergraduate degree in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at UC Santa Cruz, at which time I developed a specific interest in infectious disease biology. Between my undergraduate degree and now, I completed an internship in Thailand researching the molecular biology of influenza, and I worked as a medical assistant in a pulmonary physician’s clinic in Santa Barbara. Both of these experiences helped influence me to pursue further education in the realm of public health. I am now in the process of acquiring my masters in hopes of working in infectious disease epidemiology, surveillance, and control, specifically pertaining to developing, tropical nations.
"I am very excited to gain experience in the field of infectious disease epidemiology this summer at the Thai Ministry of Public Health in Nonthaburi, Thailand. I am most interested in studying the epidemiology and surveillance of zoonotic viruses in developing, tropical nations. In the future I would like to focus my work in Southeast Asia, and feel that interning in Thailand will provide me with valuable hands on public health experience in the region."
Project Title: Investigating the Epidemiology of Influenza in Bangkok, Thailand
